Children and Teen Library Reopening!!

On Thursday, October 31st the Children and Teen Library will be opening. What better way to celebrate the reopening, than with a party! Starting at 4:00pm there will be cookies, pizza, crafts, and games for children and teens to partake in. Not only will we be celebrating the reopening, but we will also be celebrating Trixie's fourth Birthday. Be sure to add the library to your Trick-or-Treat route later that night! The staff will be dressed in costume handing out candy to trick-or-treaters!

Bloody Bender Book Discussion

The Saga of the Bloody Benders by Rick Geary books are currently available for check-out, and Mike Hall will lead the book discussion on Tuesday, October 29th at 7pm. Bloody Kate Bender

The Bloody Kate Bender living history performance presented by Michelle Martin will be held on Thursday, October 17th at 7:00pm at the Independence Public Library. A self-proclaimed healer and psychic, Kate distributed flyers advertising her supernatural powers and her ability to cure illnesses. She also conducted séances and gave lectures on spiritualism, gaining notoriety for advocating free love. Kate Bender was part of the infamous Southeast Kansas "Bloody Bender" family who murdered wealthy travelers that visited their inn.
